The Legendary Actor Dr. Shriram Lagoo Passes Away: Here Are 5 Lesser-known Facts About The Exemplary Artist
Doctor Shriram Lagoo is a legend. Having acted in over 211 Hindi and Marathi films, he has played legendary roles in Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati plays. He directed over 20 Marathi plays. The growth of theater industry was possible due to the movement he lead in Maharashtra in the post-Independence era alongside Vijay Tendulkar, Vijaya Mehta and Arvind Deshpande.

V Shantaram's film 'Pinjra', Hindi films like ‘Ek Din Achanak’, ‘Gharonda and Laawaris’, plays such as "Natsamrat" and "Himalayachi Saoli", all created history because of Dr. Lagoo’s skilled performances.

This legend passed away yesterday due to age-related ailments at his Pune residence. He was 92.

Here are 5 lesser known facts about the actor that tell you why Dr. Lagoo was indeed a golden chapter of the Marathi Industry:

Dr. Lagoo’s love for performing arts started when he was just a student in Bhave school. It was his first stage performance when he froze in front of the audience. After a few moments of silence not only did he start saying his own lines, he started saying everyone’s lines. This was the start of an era!

Shriram Lagoo, an ENT Surgeon by education, a performing artist by passion, was known for his iconic character roles in films. Before he became an actor he practiced medicine and surgery in Pune, Tabora, Tanzania. It was only after he turned 42, did he start ‘acting’ as a full-time professional. During the days when he was a practicing doctor, he couldn’t resist the passion for acting, he continued working with Progressive Dramatic Association.

His skill on stage was so powerful that, not only did he stunned audiences with his performance, he also supported his co-artists well in live stage shows or on camera. Once, his co-star was 12 minutes late to enter the stage for her part.  Dr. Lagoo filled in the gap with his own dialogues in such a way that the audience didn’t even realize the script is being modified.

In 2017, Lagoo was the subject of a death hoax, he was severely unwell but social media declared that the legend passed away. Sadly this time the news is true.

Dr. Lagoo was unwell for quite some time due to his old age, he was 92 years young, as he breathed his last at 7.30 pm on Tuesday in Pune’s Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital. This was the end of an era!
