Veteran Actor And Theatre Dignitary, Padmashree Dr. Mohan Agashe Turns 72 Today
Dr. Agashe was born in a humble family in Pune, he started acting since his school days in Sai Paranjpe's group called ‘Children’s Theatre’. His performance as a child artist was also appreciated by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. While Dr. Agashe was a part of Maharashtriya Kalopasak, his talent was spotted by Purushottam Vaze and he got a chance to play the role of 'Amol' in the play ‘Dakghar’.

Inspite of being a talented student, it was difficult for Dr. Agashe’s family to sponsor his higher education. He still managed to make his way into psychiatry. It was in medical college when Dr. Agashe realized his love for theatre, with his then accomplices, Jabbar Patel and Satish Alekar.

Dr. Agashe one of the founding members of Theatre Academy, Pune. He worked as 'Nana Phadnavis' in Vijay Tendulkar’s 'Ghashiram Kotwal' for over twenty years since his debut. Winning Padmashree in 1990, Dr. Agashe was seen in numerous plays like ‘Dhanya Mi Kritarth’, ‘Ashi Pakhare Yeti’ and ‘Katkon Trikon’ to name a few.

He has starred in television serials like, ‘Ti Phulrani’, ‘Guntata Hrudaya He’ and ‘Agnihotra’. His most iconic films were, ‘Gulmohar’, ‘Gandhi’, ‘Akalpit’, ‘Akrosh’, ‘Trimurti’, ‘Dr. Prakash Baba Amte’, ‘Trimurti’ and ‘Mrityudand’. His recent films were ‘Welcome Home’ and ‘706’ in the year 2019.

72 years young and still full of life, Dr. Agashe is one of the few artists who see acting as an art and science; and have contributed to the Marathi, Hindi and Global cinema through his work on path-breaking and out-of-the box cinema.
