The exemplary social activist and feminist writer Vidya Bal who was fighting a legal battle for women's rights to enter various places of worship dies after a brief illness at a hospital in Pune on Thursday. The 84-year-old Bal played a key role in the women empowerment movement in the state. Sonali Kulkarni pays respect to the late Vidya Bal.

The actress writes that her friend Vidya is resting for the first time and every tear she sheds she is feeling more and more grateful. She promises the late social activist saying that she will drive her dream further.

She started her career as an anchor in All India Radio and later, joined the Stree magazine in 1964. From being an assistant to an editor to an activist-cum-journalist she progressed in her journey just the way her thoughts caught up across India.

Bal was also a founder of Miloon Saarya Jani and the Naari Samata Manch. Through both the platforms, she was trying to improve the conditions of women in the most rural corners of Maharashtra.
