Music Composer Ravindra Jain Dies At 71

Veteran music composer and lyricist Ravindra Jain passed away today afternoon at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra, Mumbai.
The 71-year-old was in Nagpur for a concert scheduled for Sunday but could not participate as he was suffering from a urinary infection. His health worsened when he suffered a paralytic stroke earlier in the week and was subsequently admitted to Wockhardt Hospital.
On Wednesday morning, he was brought to Mumbai in a chartered air ambulance. He was admitted in the ICU and put on a 48-hour dialysis.
Jain, who composed music for films like Chor Machaye Shor, Geet Gata Chal, Chitchor and Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se, overcame his visual disability and made a mark in the music world. He even won the Filmfare Award for Best music Director for Ram Teri Ganga Maili.
Lyricist Sameer, who knew him personally, told SpotboyE, "He had a very childlike nature and never compromised on his music. He considered Ram Teri Ganga Maili to be his best work."
The lyricist even narrated an incident that proves the impact Jain's music has had on Hindi films. "When Yash Chopra approached lyricist Anand Bakshi to pen the songs for Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Bakshi clearly told him that the film should not have a title track. He told Yashji that Jain's song from Chor Machaye Shor (from which the title of DDLJ is inspired) was a classic and they would never be able to make a song that matches the standard set by Jain," he said.
