For Singer Sonu Nigam, It's Always Been Dial C For Controversy
For someone who has often been dubbed as a Mohd. Rafi clone and started earning at the age of four, it’s been a long journey for singer Sonu Nigam. At a not-so-old age of 42, Sonu Nigam is at peace and has cut down on his singing assignment; instead he focuses more on stage shows abroad and organic farming. But the peace was broken recently when he took to Twitter to rant against Azaan prayers through loudspeakers. It sparked a controversy and made fodder for media everywhere. And the latest being that when a Maulavi announced a prize of 10 Lakh for whosoever shaves his head, Sonu took the challenge head-on. Guess controversy is his other name and his ‘forced religiousness’ comment is not the first time which has landed the singer in trouble, Sonu have had several such brushes in past.

It was in February last year when Sonu had a brush with controversy mid-air. It all happened in a chartered Jet Air flight when he was returning back to Mumbai from Jodhpur. During the journey the singer in Sonu made most of the in-flight announcement microphone. After he was insisted by fellow passengers, the singer took the opportunity to croon few of his popular numbers through the announcement system, the aftermath being five cabin crew members came under scrutiny and were grounded for allowing Sonu to sing songs in the flight.

God woman Radhe Maa was in news in 2015 because of a dowry case, and it was Sonu Nigam who supported her through his tweets. Sonu received flak for his support.Sonu made analogy between Radhe Maa and Goddess Kali. Few FIRs on the singer followed soon after.

It was the same year again and this time his spat with popular music label Zee Music made headlines. Zee network banned Sonu Nigam and refused entertaining film soundtracks that had Sonu Nigam songs. It is alleged that Zee took the extreme step after Sonu Nigam shared a video in support of AAP leader Kumar Vishwas which refuted a news story aired on Zee news. It was an ugly fight between the two which he later took it to his social media platform. The matter was resolved later on.

When Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan were embroiled last year in their comment on ‘intolerance’ and were being dubbed anti national from various quarters, Sonu Nigam took advantage of the situation to voice his opinion. He tweeted and said, “Everyone has the right to opinion except a celebrity”.
The last time he made news because of his outspoken behaviour was during the release of Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The comment made by Anushka Sharma in the film about Mohd. Rafi, irked the singer and made his displeasure known to the world. Not to lie back, verbal volleys followed soon after on social media between Karan and Sonu.
