Gippy Grewal On Fearing DEATH, After Attacks On Punjabi Artists Like Sidhu Moosewala; Says, ‘Aap Unhe Taal Nahin Sakte’
Punjabi filmmaker and musician Gippy Grewal is one of the sought-after celebrities from the film fraternity. Over the years he has made a name for himself with his down-to-earth personality and never forgetting his humble beginnings. He often opens up about his life before and after gaining popularity. Currently promoting his upcoming film ‘Shinda Shinda No Papa,’ where he stars alongside his real-life son, he recently opened up about receiving death threats and attacks on Punjabi musicians Sidhu Moosewala and Amar Singh Chamkila.

Talking about the recently released Imtiaz Ali directorial, Amar Singh Chamkila, he credited the filmmaker for casting Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role. While explaining how the film needed to be led by a Punjabi musician, he pointed out, “Chamkila belongs to the Punjabi audience first and then to the rest of the world.” During an interview with India.com, he added that if the makers had cast anyone else, the audience wouldn’t have been able to connect with the film. He shared, “If you take the right kind of artist, it helps. He has done a wonderful job and Imtiaz sir has also done a good job with the film.”

When asked about his take on Punjabi artists being attacked and murdered and if he feels vulnerable because of it, Grewal shared that he can’t stop the happenings around the world. As he is reminded of the extortion threats he received from a gangster in December last year, he revealed that he believes in doing his job just like Chamkila. The 41-year-old actor told the publication, “Jo cheezen ho rahi hain aap unhe taal nahin sakte, but you can be cautious. Hum isi cheez ke liye paida huye hain, hum yahi karengi, hum kahin aur bhi chale jate thai to phir wapas aa jate hain. Jahan aapka dil hai, wahi kaam karna chahiye.”

Talking about the biopic of Amar Singh Chamkila, the movie was released on Netflix. It has been streaming on the OTT platform since 2th April 2024. Co-starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, the movie is a biographical film based on the life of late musician Amar Singh Chamkila, who was brutally killed at a young age because of his thought-provoking songs and lyrics. Fans have been showering the cast and the crew of the movie with love and adoration on social media.
