Malayalam Director Ranjith Arrested Over S*xual Assault Charges; Taken Into Custody After Actor Files Complaint

Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith Balakrishnan has been arrested in connection with alleged sexual assault charges, according to reports. The arrest was made by police on Tuesday evening following a complaint lodged by a woman actor, who accused him of misconduct during a film shoot.

As per officials, the complaint was filed a few days earlier at a police station in Kochi. After conducting a preliminary inquiry, authorities found prima facie evidence supporting the allegations, which led to the filmmaker’s arrest. Police reportedly intercepted his vehicle at night in Thodupuzha before taking him into custody.

The case pertains to an alleged incident that took place at a shooting location. The complainant claimed that the filmmaker behaved inappropriately and attempted sexual assault. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered under relevant legal provisions, including charges linked to sexual harassment.

Officials have stated that the accused will be brought to Kochi and produced before a magistrate as part of the legal process. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway, and authorities are examining all aspects of the complaint.

The development has drawn significant attention due to the director’s prominent position in the Malayalam film industry. The incident has also led to renewed focus on past allegations against him, which had surfaced earlier but were either denied or legally contested.
