On December 28, Captain Vijayakanth passed away at a private hospital in Chennai. His mortal remains are placed at the DMDK (Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam) office in Chennai, allowing the public to pay their respects. On the same night, Thalapathy Vijay paid a visit to Vijayakanth's party office to honour the late leader. For those unaware, Vijayakanth acted alongside Vijay in the latter's second film, marking a pivotal phase in Vijay's early career by providing him with significant success.

Vijayakanth fondly known as Puratchi Kalaignar, held a revered status as both an acclaimed actor and a prominent political figure in Tamil Nadu. Personalities like Kamal Haasan, Jr NTR, and various actors and politicians expressed their heartfelt condolences on their social media platforms. On the evening of December 28, Thalapathy Vijay paid his respects at the DMDK office located in Koyembedu, Chennai. Overwhelmed with emotion, he was visibly moved to tears while offering condolences to Vijayakanth's wife, Premalatha, along with his two sons, Vijaya Prabhakaran and Shanmuga Pandian. Leo star was mobbed by fans on his way back to the car.

Vijayakanth and director SA Chandrashekar, father of Thalapathy Vijay, shared frequent collaborations, resulting in successful films. This partnership became crucial when Vijay faced a setback with his debut movie, 'Naalaya Theerpu,' which received poor reception. To revive Vijay's career, SA Chandrasekhar urged Vijayakanth to act alongside his son. Without hesitation, Vijayakanth agreed, starring with Vijay in 'Sendhoorapandi,' which turned out to be a massive success.


During the 40 years of Vijayakanth event, SA Chandrasekhar expressed deep gratitude, acknowledging that Vijayakanth's support played a pivotal role in shaping Vijay's career. He mentioned, 'What Vijayakanth did for Vijay was monumental. Without his support, Vijay's success wouldn't have been the same.' Vijayakanth's mortal remains will be placed at the Island Grounds from 6 am to 1 pm, with the final rites scheduled at the DMDK office at 4.45 pm.
