Tamil director Manikandan, who is currently busy shooting for his upcoming next alongside Vijay Sethupathi, faced a tough time when his Madurai residence was robbed by a few thieves. In a bizarre incident, the robbers returned his National Award medals and even sent him an apology note too. According to a report by the Free Press Journal, the theft took place at his Usilampatti residence, in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. While the robbery took place a few days ago, upon realising that they stole his medals alongside other valuables, they decided to return them.

It is to be noted that, the 36-year-old director lives in Chennai with his family and his pet dog stays at his Madhurai residence. The pet is always fed by the filmmaker’s friends who realised that the doors of his house were tampered with. It was soon after that they noticed various valuables around the house were stolen. The report by FPJ states that according to the complaint filed with the Usilampatti Police, Rs 1 Lakh cash, around 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery, and other items were missing.

During the ongoing investigations, the officials found a polythene bag hanging from the compound wall of the house, which contained Manikandan’s medals and the apology note. As reported by the Free Press Journal, the note read, “Sir, please forgive us, we are returning your hardwork's pay.” While the photo of the note is currently going viral, the cash and the jewellary are still missing. The police officials are on a search for the robbers. 

For the unversed, Manikandan made his directorial debut with Kaaka Muttai. The movie received the National Award for Best Children’s Film. His last venture Kadaisi Vivasayi won the National Award for Best Feature Film.
