Basking in the triumph of his recent movie Leo, Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay is poised to make a foray into politics. Long harbouring plans to launch his political party, the Mersal star has actively engaged in charitable initiatives, encompassing free food distribution, educational scholarships, libraries, and legal aid. As reported by NDTV, Vijay has initiated the party launch process in Tamil Nadu, securing the role of party president. The party is slated for registration with the Election Commission of India (EIC), although the party's name remains undecided at this juncture. ALSO READ: WHAT! According to the report, approximately 200 members of the party's general council participated in a pre-registration meeting. The party has already appointed its General Secretary and Treasurer, and a Central Executive Committee has been formed. A source shared with the news portal that Vijay intends to venture into politics preceeding the 2026 Tamil Nadu polls. The 49-year-old boasts a considerable fan base and frequently grabs attention for his philanthropic efforts. In December 2023, he made headlines for aiding flood-affected residents in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts. Vijay reportedly provided relief materials to families significantly affected by the floods. On the work front, the South actor is committed to the filming of his upcoming movie which is tentatively titled Thalapathy 68. The film is being helmed by Venkat Prabhu.
