Beintehaa Fame Anjali Kapoor Shares Her Casting Couch Experience: Agar Mein Shows Kar Leti Without Objection, Toh Aaj Ek Known Actor Hoti
Anjali Kapoor shares that she chose singing over acting because of casting couch experiences
Anjali Kapoor has impressed the audience with her acting chops through shows like Beintehaa, An Incomplete Mission and Farm House. She has even made a name for herself as a singer through various music videos. Recently, she opened up about her casting couch experiences that made her want to pursue a career in music rather than as an actor.
During an interaction with IANS she shared how casting couch was one of the reasons why she moved towards singing. She went on to share that if an actor is rejected for a role because of their own short comings it seem fair, but if an actress is rejected because she is against casting couch, it’s unfair. She said, “I have experienced casting couch and it was also one of the reasons for stepping back and moving towards singing because I don’t want to face such things. Also, in today’s time it has become a normal thing even if you disagree, someone else would be ready to do it for work. If you have any shortcomings in terms of acting, criteria for looks therefore getting rejected so its fine. But if you are facing rejections for being against casting couch then it’s totally unfair.”
Recalling an incident that took away her acting opportunites, Anjali revealed that she was very demotivated after facing so many rejections. So much so that it broke her mentally. She told the publication, “I have faced it after which I got very demotivated. Agar mein woh show kar leti without any objection, toh mein aaj ek known actor hoti.(If I would have done that show, today I would be a known actor). And it was for a known show but I don’t want to name it. I feel it breaks you mentally. I feel many girls have faced this, some don’t speak up but some speak up and face consequences as well. But yes, many have faced it but don’t stand up thinking they won’t get work in future.”
Talking about why she chose singing she expressed how uncertain the field of acting is and the age factor mostly decides which roles one gets. She further added, “But in singing your voice doesn’t leave you until the end so I thought of going ahead on that path. Also, I went into depression after facing rejections and also demanded certain things which I thought I won’t be able to fulfill.”
