Bigg Boss 14 Premiere REVIEW: Contestants And Creative Calls Disappoint; Salman Khan And His Wit Save The Day For This LONG Broadcast
Salman Khan's much awaited show Bigg Boss 14 finally went on air last night. The broadcast which went on air at 9pm ended at 12:30 am. Yes, it stretched on for three-and-a-half hours and we wonder what for?!
Salman Khan's much awaited show Bigg Boss 14 finally went on air last night. The broadcast which went on air at 9pm ended at 12:30 am. Yes, it stretched on for three-and-a-half hours and we wonder what for?! Like every year we were excited enough to see Salman's opening performance to his hit numbers but it didn't happen this time, though a lot of celebrities were seen clapping and laughing, while sitting in the comfort of the ‘audience box’. Footage from old award shows was added, to make up for the lack of a live audience. What a good idea, na? Good yes but not original. The concept was copied from Emmy Awards 2020 which happened a few weeks back.
Post which Salman introduced ‘toofani seniors’ Sidharth Shukla, Hina Khan and Gauahar Khan. Well, Sidharth will rule the bedroom whereas Gauhar will have command over the kitchen and Hina Khan will decide on the new contestants’ clothes and makeup, as she has complete control over the locker room. After grooving on some Bollywood numbers the ‘seniors’ were shown sitting outside the house, dissecting and discussing the new entrants. But before that Salman did try to get some reaction from them about each other. He asked them a few questions about each other by showing the ‘seniors’ their old tweets. I feel the creative team has got some ‘solid veterans’ at hand and should conceive of better ideas to fully harness their talent. However, full points to Salman Khan for trying to keep things exciting. During the whole show they kept showing glimpses of Radhe Maa entering the house in breaks so that no one leaves the show in between as she is the only controversial contestant in the entire lot. There has been decent buzz around her. Also disappointing is the fact that the season which claims to be a celebrity season has many faces who need some research about them whereas there are some known faces that honestly don’t excite me at all.
Starting with Eijaz Khan who has been part of TV shows and Salman Khan films before had a quirky introduction as his nickname Gabbar was shared by the host and the actor of course narrated the story behind it. Then entered Nikki Tamboli who sounded like a self-proclaimed entertainment package and drama queen. So, we guess you don't know what has she done before? Oh, right. So she has worked in South films. TV couple Rubina Dilaik and Abhinav Shukla were introduced. We found them extremely cute and adorable but in my mind, I was asking, ‘inka yahan kya kaam hai?’ To answer that they had organised a virtual media panel. During which it was revealed that their relationship went through much turbulence during the lockdown. BUT WHAT? As per my knowledge and their Instagram feed they were having the best time of their time in Shimla (Rubina's hometown). Justify to karna tha inhe laaye kyun hai, khair. And now let’s talk about the other list of contestants which SpotboyE.com gave you months ago like Jasmin Bhasin, Nishant Singh Malkhani, Rahul Vaidya, Sara Gurpal, Pavitra Punia and Jaan Kumar Sanu. I found Pavitra Punia and Rahul Vaidya to have qualities of smart players. Oh wait, where were the toofani seniors busy with amidst all this. Well they were giving tasks to already selected contestants by themselves. Yaa it's true like Sidharth hit a bottle on Jasmin Bhasin's head and Hina cutting her hair only to get a reaction.
Then came Radhe Maa just to give blessings to the season 14 and participating contestants. Really? What was the need if she isn't staying on to entertain the audience. Or is she going to? Overall, the first episode was definitely not what we expected but thanks to host Salman Khan who was the saviour, we managed to enjoy it quite a lot. His witty punchlines and jokes made the long premiere episode very watchable.
