Last week, the WHO (World Health Organization) declared Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) as a pandemic. Ever since, in order to avoid mass gatherings and spreading of the deadly virus, several entertainment bodies decided to put a hold on the shoot of films, TV and web series would be put on hold from March 19 till March 31. As many TV shows do not have a bank of episodes to go on air, IFTPC chairman JD Majethia, Nia Sharma, and Kamya Punjabi open up on how the TV industry is functioning.

Speaking with IndianExpress, TV-wing –  Indian Film and Television Producers Council Chairman, JD Majethia shared that they will be shooting until Wednesday. He added, “So this week, and maybe for a few, it will be a couple of more episodes. Then the obvious choice is to rerun, but it will be interesting to twist and look at this as an opportunity to break the competition.” Majethia shared how there is no choice but to re-run the episodes, but also mentioned that it is an opportunity to break the competition. Majethia who is known for a popular show like Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and currently has SAB TV’s show Bhakharwadi on-air said, “For viewers too, it is a time to experiment and sample other channels’ successful shows, which they might have missed due to loyalty towards their favorites on the same time slot.”

On the other hand, TV’s current favorite Naagin, Nia Sharma also shared what she thinks in the hour of crisis. The Naagin 4 actress said, “I think it was the need of the hour as it is rightly said, better be safe than sorry!” Nia added that it is better to stay home and be safe, and resume work after a while rather than going to work risking anyone’s health. The actress went on to share that she also understands that it is going to impact businesses and daily wagers, but mentioned that life is more important which needs to be prioritized.


Moving on, talking to Pinkvilla.com about the situation,  Kamya Punjabi who is currently featuring in the show Shakti Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki. Kamya shared how she along with others are working on their normal shifts, but mentioned that it is well communicated that the cast and crew won’t be exerting too much to bank episodes. The actress shared that producers have been extremely accommodative and have been ensuring all safety measures. Kamya added, “In any case, broadcasters will be re-running the episodes. We know it will be a little sad for the viewers but safety comes first.” The actress also shared how she carries food from home and some extra food for the crew as well so that everyone can have home-cooked food. Meanwhile, with the TV industry trying their best efforts to stay safe, films like Sooryavanshi, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar,  and others including many international ones have delayed their theatrical release.
