Pooja Banerjee Recalls Her Near-Death Experience On Nach Baliye 9 Set: ‘I Have Had A Partial Memory Loss After The Accident’- EXCLUSIVE
Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2 actress Pooja Banerjee met with a major accident on the sets of Nach Baliye 9, a few days back. She had a nasty fall from 10 feet and landed straight on her hand, fracturing both the wrists and spraining a ligament in left leg. The actress, after exiting from the show, has been on complete bed rest since then. Now, she is back home from the hospital, post her surgeries.

We got in touch with Pooja to understand how she is coping with her health and if the recovery is going well. Excerpts from the conversation:

Hope you are feeling better, Pooja. Are you healing well?
Yes, I am better. Out of my 3 injuries, even if one gets fine, I will be happy. Both my hands are not working and I can’t even walk because my left leg is plastered. So, you can imagine how desperate I am to recover soon. It’s very difficult.

So, who is helping you in your day to day chores?
My family is there. We have nurses 24x7 who attend to me. I am unable to do anything. I can't even pull a blanket on myself because my hands are not working at all. In fact, right now as well, you are on speaker because I can’t hold the phone either.

Do you remember anything about the nasty fall?
I don't remember anything from that moment as I had a partial memory loss after that. The last I remember is the excruciating pain after I hit the floor. Sandeep showed me a video, where I can see myself dancing and the next moment I fall.  It was very shattering for me to see it because even today, I can't recall anything. I had a short time memory loss after I fell down from stage.

Go on...
I was in the ambulance, feeling all dizzy. I couldn't understand what was happening and where was I being taken. But after I got admitted and was given heavy painkillers, I gradually came to my senses and was told that I have multiple fractures.

Did you consult a specialist for your partial memory loss?
Yes, I did and got a couple of CT scans done too. Thankfully, medically it was all fine. But according to the doctors, because the accident was huge and painful, I have had a memory block about it, hence I don’t remember anything.

We’re sure the traumatic accident still gives you sleepless nights?
Well, I should tell you this- the accident was so bad that people present on the sets and also those who have seen the video, including me, feel that this could have been worst. But luckily, I happened to save my head and my face. Agar main haath nahi rakhti to kuch bhi ho sakta tha. Probably my knees would have shattered or my brain would have taken the blow. Since I am also an athlete, I managed to save my head and face. And I really thank god for saving me.

You’re an actor in a daily soap, Pooja. After knowing how serious your injuries are, were you nervous about how your work will suffer from here on?
I had actually told the doctors that I don’t want to go in for a surgery, of course, I didn’t realise the degree of my injuries till then. As surgeries were inevitable in my case, I had to get operated and was in hospital for 8-9 days. Right now, I am just glad that I am back home. This will take time, at least a month to stand on my feet, 6 weeks for the hand plaster to come out and 3 for the leg. Post that, I will start physiotherapy sessions.

Sandeep must be all shaken-up with your injury
Completely! He is extremely shocked with the incident because he saw me falling right in front of his eyes and he was unable to do anything- that makes him more upset. But I keep telling him not to feel bad about it and I also try to forget it as a bad dream. It’s always better to move on.

So, how are you passing your time then?
My friends have been taking time out from their busy schedules and visiting me. My whole Kasautii family came to see me- Erica Fernandes, Parth Samthaan, Shubhaavi Choksey. Karan Singh Grover has not come yet but he will be coming soon. He is in constant touch with me. Ekta Ma’am has also been in continuous touch with Sandeep to know about my recovery as I can’t be on phone throughout.

And what about Nach Baliye team?
They were also equally concerned. Urvashi Dholakia was the first one to call after learning about my accident. Not only the contestants but also crew members of the show visited me in the hospital. Though I was a part of the show for a short span of time, but I have worked with all these actors like Vishal Aditya Singh, Madhurima Tulli and Urvashi Dholakia in Chandrakanta, Aly Goni in Dil Hi To Hai, Anita Hassanandani and Shraddha Arya shoot in the same premises where I shoot for Kasautii in Klick Nixon. Faisal and I have gone for an outdoor event in Indonesia. When I joined Nach Baliye 9, all of them they were so happy to have me on board. They all have sent their regards and wishes for a speedy recovery.

You’re being missed on-the-sets of Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2
I am missing the set and my on-screen family too. Also, we completed one year yesterday and I am feeling so bad that I am not with them to celebrate the moment. But right now my focus is just to heal faster, so that I can be back to normal. If I will compromise on my rest, then it may result into complications later. I have decided until I am not able to walk on my own feet, I will not resume shooting.

How are your shows’ makers managing without you?
They are being patient. I get calls from writers on the show, asking if they can write my scenes ahead but I have told them not to because I want to be totally fine before resuming work. I can’t be dependent on my friends and nurse, on the sets. I have always maintained a cordial relationship, not just with Balaji telefilms but all production houses I have worked with. So, they are being considerate. For instance, next month my web series was above to start (Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai Season 3) and they are willing to wait for me to resume.
