Hina Khan, Simone Singh Has Something To Tell You About Your Cannes 2019 Appearance- EXCLUSIVE
Who doesn’t know the first Heena of Indian television industry? Simone Singh became a household name with her show Heena, where she played the protagonist. She is also the first Indian TV actress to be present at the International Emmy Awards in NYC and served as a jury member at first International Emmy Awards, held in India in 2005. Simone, recently made her digital debut with Haqq Se and then appeared in another web series, Four More Shorts Please.

Now, Simone is all set to comeback on the small screen with Zee TV’s Bahu Begum, where she plays a Muslim character, named Razia. We got an opportunity to talk with the actress about her upcoming shows and also other achievements. Amidst our conversation, while talking about her international accomplishments, we brought up Hina Khan’s recent Cannes 2019 visit and the controversy which embroiled the actress. Read on to know what Simone has to say about it.

The conversation cannot begin without you throwing some light on the character of Razia from Bahu Begum

Razia is the Bahu Begum of Bhopal, who is a woman in position and power but in a very traditional society. The story is set in a royal family. Now, Razia has a very progressive mindset and that is where the complications emerge. She has raised her son as a single mother, facing life challenges. Also, we can't have a daily soap without depicting life challenges (laughs).

We last saw you in Four More Shorts Please, any plans of season 2?
Well, I have done Haqq Se and Four More Shorts Please and yes, both are coming up with Season 2.

So, if you had to pick between TV and Digital platform- which one do you find more comfortable?
On Television I don't take projects which go on forever. I choose the one whose start and end is what I know. It is difficult for any actor to play one character for years together. It’s very demanding physically, mentally and psychologically. I am really enjoying the web space because the characters they write and tell are very exciting.

Web space is also a bold medium. Will we see Simone attempting something like that?
No. I prefer interesting than any other adjectives. I love to engage with the character that brings out a certain aspect of you which you have not discovered yet.

You are remembered as Heena by many and now, seeing you as Razia will definitely be nostalgic for fans
I do agree with this. Frankly, after signing the show, I realised that whatever situations Heena faced, are somewhat similar to what Razia is facing. It’s like an opportunity to be part of a show which is so much like my old one. Razia and Heena both are strong women.

You were the first Indian TV Actress to represent India in Emmy International Awards. Recently, Hina Khan too made us proud by walking the Cannes 2019 red carpet. However, she got embroiled in a controversy too. What would you say about that?
How marvellous is it that Hina represented us at the Cannes Film Festival, 2019. She put her best foot forward as the face of Indian Television. What better can happen than this? I really don't know what is there to debate about. It’s a wonderful thing.
