Actress Raavee Gupta, who made her comeback with Naagin 5 after 8 years, is essaying the role of Chandrakala Singhania in the show. She opened up about the changes she felt now and also about the roles she would like to explore. Read on:
What difference did you see after making a comeback after 8 years?
Except, ofcourse, for an entire new generation of actors, not much. It still works as it did then.
You have been part of shows like Kyunki and Kahinn Kissi Roz,which is still fresh in viewers' minds even after so many years. Do you feel today's show can leave that impact on viewers' minds?
I have been fortunate enough to be a part of memorable shows like these and currently too I am doing Naagin which has a cult following. Though it seems harder today because of a plethora of channels including OTT. The viewers are spoilt for choice.
Tell us about the first break you got on television. Was casting easy that point of time?
It was a soap called 'Yeh Nazdeekiyan..' I had auditioned through a coordinator and got through in the first test. The process is still the same but it's certainly way more competitive now.
One character which has been close to your heart so far and why?
It's a toss up between Damini from Kyunki Saas bhi kabhi Bahu thi and Kaikasi from 'Raavan'. Both were very strong and well-written characters. Gave me a lot to sink my teeth into!
Sequels are being made. Which show of that time can make a magic sequel made according to you?
I feel audiences would like to see more shows like Hum Paanch, Hip Hip Hurray, Tu Tu main main.. they would work in a sequel!
Why did you choose Naagin for a comeback?
A great role in a successful cult show with a massive audience. Why would I not do it! And I've had a great working relationship with Balaji. Done some of my best work with them.
What sort of response are you getting for your character?
I've gotten a great response for my work. Online, offline everywhere.
Recently there was news that Naagin 5 is going off air. How true is that?
I have heard nothing of the sort.
What sort of roles are you expecting in future?
It's a great time to be an actor. With the advent and success of various platforms there is a lot of amazing work being done. So, I hope and expect to do varied roles and strong complex characters. I would love to be de-glam and real!
