'I Felt Something Around My Waist': Amruta Subhash Recounts Harassment By Top Producer, Says 'You Can’t Touch Me Without Consent'
National Award-winning actress Amruta Subhash has bravely opened up about her experience of sexual harassment in the entertainment industry, recalling a chilling incident involving a well-known film producer.
“I felt something around my waist,” Amruta shared, describing the moment she was climbing stairs and suddenly sensed an inappropriate touch. “I turned around and asked, ‘What did you just do? What was that?’” she recounted. The producer casually brushed it off, claiming her top had moved. But Amruta firmly confronted him: “It’s none of your business! How dare you touch me there? You can’t do that.”
Despite being warned by others that her reaction could cost her career opportunities, she stood her ground. “Let it go to hell. Because you can’t touch me anywhere without consent,” she declared.
In another incident, Amruta recalled a senior person in the industry who repeatedly asked her to drink with him at night. Tired of his behavior, she confronted him head-on. “I went into his room, kept the door open and said, ‘Sir, you are my father’s age. Why are you talking to me like this? What is your problem?’” she said. The confrontation made him back off.
Sharing advice for young women facing similar situations, she said, “One thing I always do, I look straight into such men’s eyes. These kinds of men are afraid of eye contact. If you feel scared, they understand and try to overpower you. But if you look straight at them, just stare back, they get scared.”
Known for her strong performances in Gully Boy, Sacred Games, and Dhamaka, Amruta Subhash continues to be an unflinching voice for women in the film industry.
