‘Rihanna’s Flight Was Specifically Challenging,’ Jamnagar Airport Director Opens Up About Handling Traffic During Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant Pre-Wedding Events

The Ambanis and the Merchants are currently over the moon as their beloved kids will be tying the knot in July 2024. The family recently hosted a huge three-day pre-wedding extravaganza which was attended by well-known personalities from all around the world. Now, as the event has wrapped up, Jamnagar Airport’s director has opened up about how he and his team had to deal with everything as they welcomed the guests and the celebrities. As reported by Financial Express, the airport authorities have had to handle five times the traffic they usually do since February 26.
For the unversed, the domestic airport also serves as an Air Force station. They had received special permission from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to handle the international flights from February 26 to March 6. During a chat with the Indian Express, the director of Jamnagar airport, Dhananjay Kumar stated that the airport operated around 40 international flights from February 26 to March 1 after they received special permission from the CIQ. The flights included 20 arrivals and 20 departures including cargo flights. Talking about the same he added that most flights arrived from ‘United States, United Kingdom, Paris, Milan, Middle East and Bhutan.’ According to him, the airport encountered a significant challenge during the arrival and departure of International singer Rihanna. Quoted by the FE, he added, “The challenge has been to accommodate all the incoming flights… Rihanna’s flight was specifically challenging, as the flights had to be brought close to the terminal.” Kumar went on to add that disembarking passengers and ground handling was a challenge as the airport had to deploy support staff from Ahmedabad and Rajkot airports. They needed more manpower for ground handling, housekeeping and immigration services.
For those who don’t know, Anant Ambani’s fiance Radhika Merchant, is the daughter of Encore Healthcare CEO Viren Merchant and Shaila Merchant. Both the families had gotten together for the Roka ceremony at the Shrinathji Temple at Nathdwara in Rajasthan on December 29. The couple had gotten engaged in a lavish ceremony of Gol Dhana and Chunari Vidhi which was attended by the who's who of Bollywood on January 19, 2023, in Antilia.
