On November 4, Republic's Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami was arrested by the Mumbai Police in connection to an old abetment to suicide case registered in 2018. Raigad police reportedly reopened a case related to the death of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik at their home in Alibag in May 2018. After Arnab Goswami’s interim bail plea was rejected by the Bombay High Court, the Supreme Court then granted him interim bail.
On Wednesday night, Arnab Goswami was released from Taloja Jail after he spent seven nights in judicial custody. As he stepped outside, a large crowd had gathered outside the jail, and Arnab was seen flashing the victory sign from the sunroof of his car. He waved to the people, and chanted ‘Vande Mataram’ along with them as the vehicle carrying him slowly moved ahead. He also said that this was the victory of the people of India.
Arnab Goswami also thanked the Supreme Court for granting him bail. Recently, Vivah actress Amrita Rao had backed Arnab, and had shared a social media post seeking Arnab’s release. Sharing a tweet by Republic which urged people to raise their voice, Amrita used three hashtags in support of Arnab- ‘India With Arnab Goswami’, ‘Arnab Life Under Threat’ and 'We Want Arnab Back’.
