Badlapur School S*x Abuse Case: Sweeper Held For Sexually Assaulting Two 4-Year-Old School Girls In The Bathroom; Enraged Parents Demand Punishment
Two young school-going girls (4) were allegedly sexually assaulted by a school sweeper at a well-known school in Badlapur. As reported by News18, they were assaulted in the bathroom. The horrifying incident has led to massive protests across Thane district by agitated parents, who are demanding capital punishment for the culprit. Identified as Akshay Shinde, he worked as a cleaner contracted through a third-party company.

Shinde was reportedly arrested after the parents insisted on filing a formal complaint despite initial attempts by the police to downplay the issue by delaying filing the FIR for over 12 hours. The enraged parents have also reportedly called for a shutdown of Badlapur city. On Tuesday, they also halted local trains by protesting on the tracks and disrupting the railway schedule between Kalyan and Karajat.

The media publication further reports that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had decided to send a team to Badlapur for investigation, after taking cognisance of the horrific incident. On the other hand, the school issued a public statement expressing its regret over the incident and acknowledged the serious lapses in safeguarding their students.

In the statement, they also promised to install additional CCTV cameras throughout the campus and implement “stringent safety measures” to prevent such incidents in the future. While they assured full cooperation with the officials, this didn’t satisfy the parents as the management was forced to suspend the principal as well as the teacher-in-charge of the class in which the girls studied, and the attendants responsible for escorting the kids to the washroom. The management has also terminated the contract of the company that employed the accused and blacklisted the contractor. In solidarity to the protesting parents, schools in the area remained closed on Tuesday.

As per the media publication, the senior police inspector of Badlapur police station was immediately transferred, after being accused of attempting to suppress the case. The cases, that have been coming more and more to light after the Kolkata Doctor rape and murder case took the nation by storm, are highlighting the lack of safety for women across age groups in the country.

Maharashtra’s Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the Thane police commissioner to submit a proposal to expedite the case. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, “I have asked police to make this case water-tight. We will not spare anyone, be it a police officer or school administration.”
