Bangladesh is currently undergoing turmoil and unrest. With visuals of vandals destroying public property, creating chaos and violent clashes, netizens have been expressing their shock over the matter. The death toll in the country has been on the rise. Now another shocking news has surfaced from the country. According to a report by the Free Press Journal, veteran filmmaker Selim Khan and his son, actor Shanto Khan were beaten to death by a mob in Bangladesh.

The father-son duo was reportedly brutally mob lynched on August 5, 2024 in Mumbai. The report states that they had fled their village to Farakkabad Bazar in Balia Union, after the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Shaikh Hasina’s resignation from her post became public. It all happened after they got into an argument with the crowd at Balia Union's Farakkabad market. As the people tried to stop them, they managed to flee the scene by opening fire. They reported couldn’t escape and were mob lynched in Bangladesh’s Chandpur. For those who don’t know, Selim Khan was also the Chairman of Lakshmipur Model Union Parishad. Arindam Das, executive producer of Tollywood, who has extensively worked with Khan for his films in Kolkata, expressed his horror over the shocking news. While talking to the media in Delhi, he was quoted by the FPJ, sayig, “I had spoken to Selim bhai on Monday. Just a few hours later, Shamim Ahmed Rony — director of ‘Commando’ — called me from the US, inquiring if I had received any news. He said his hands trembled after hearing distressing news about Selim Bhai. On the work front, the filmmaker co-produced a film Commando starring Dev, which is yet to be released. He gained recognition for making Bangabandhu, a biopic on Bangladesh's founder, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who is the father of Shaikh Hasina. On the other hand, his son, Shanto Khan made a name for himself because of his 2022 film Bikkhov, co-starring Srabanti Chatterjee, Rajatava Dutta, and Joydeep Mukherjee. He also had Agnibina alongside Rituparna Sengupta, Manob Danob with Bonny Sengupta, and Chhuti with Bonny and Koushani Mukherjee, in his pipeline.
