Fashion influencer Nancy Tyagi, celebrated for her self-stitched ensembles, is under scrutiny following allegations that her Cannes 2025 outfit was not entirely her own creation. Singer Neha Bhasin publicly challenged Tyagi's claim of designing the dress, noting its striking resemblance to a corset Bhasin wore in December 2024. Bhasin shared side-by-side images on Instagram, captioning, “This corset looks too familiar hmmmm. Just wondering,” and later added, “Same same.”
Further complicating matters, Surbhi Gupta, founder of The Source Bombay—a fashion store in Bandra—confirmed that Tyagi purchased the corset from their store for ₹25,000 prior to the festival. Gupta stated, “Nancy claims she stitched it herself and all of that, but she bought it from us. She got it from our Mumbai store. We don’t have any problem. She purchased it, so she's free to do what she wants with it. But it is our design. We didn't do a barter or a collaboration. She did not stitch it herself, which she claims she did. The cape she wore doesn't belong to me... that's something she seems to have made herself, I guess.”
Tyagi's Instagram post about the outfit described it as a labor of love, stating it took a month to create and was inspired by her mother's favorite color. She wrote, “Ye colour meri mummy ka favourite hai, isliye iss baar decide kiya ki isi colour mein dress design karun,” and added, “Isse banane mein poora one month laga, aur main last moment tak taiyaari mein lagi rahi, kyunki dress kaafi heavy thi. Dil se shukriya un sabhi ka jo is pyaari journey ka ek hissa rahe, aap sabke bina yeh moment vapis itna special nahi hota.”
As of now, Tyagi has not responded to the allegations. The controversy has ignited discussions about authenticity and transparency in the fashion influencer community.
