Conor McGregor and Kim Kardashian enjoy a global fanbase. While Kim is known for her reality shows and social media presence, McGregor holds the title of the face of the UFC, the largest mixed martial arts promotion in the world. But, did you know, as different they may sound, they are somewhat related?

Interestingly, reports suggest that Kim Kardashian’s mother, Kris Kardashian, has Scottish roots and is related to Rob Roy McGregor, a local outlaw turned folk hero. Conor McGregor has previously spoken about his connection to Rob Roy in interviews, stating, “My family originated from the Scottish highlands; they fought for their independence. It's something that runs in my family's history, and I've become obsessed with that a little bit. It is something that my ancestors have done before me, and I am simply carrying my family's name with pride.”

The reality TV star’s mother has ancestry from Scotland and is related to outlaw and folk hero Robert Roy MacGregor - a huge figure and member of one of Scotland’s oldest clans. The rebel and cattle thief died in 1734 aged 63, was part of the Jacobite rising of 1689 and took part in the Battle of Glen Shiel in 1719.


Nobleman MacGregor was depicted in the 1995 film Rob Roy, starring Liam Neeson. 

As per Daily Record, that gives the pair a link to the legendary first King of Scots Kenneth MacAlpin. Kardashian's sister Kourtney named her daughter Penelope Scotland Disick in 2012 — an apparent acknowledgement to their heritage north of the Hadrian's Wall.

The Kardashians are famously proud of their Armenian heritage on the paternal side and Kim, 38, condemned denials of the Armenian Genocide in 2016. 

McGregor has spoken before about his ancestry — suggesting it makes him the Notorious we know him for today. He hasn't fought in UFC since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. But he has been offered a huge payday to repeat his boxing 2017 showdown with Mayweather Jr.
