Sunita Ahuja, wife of Bollywood icon Govinda, recently sparked speculation by removing “Ahuja” from her Instagram name and adding an extra “S” to “Sunita.” Fans immediately wondered if the couple were on the verge of divorce—but Sunita has clarified it wasn’t because of marital issues, but for numerological reasons.
She told the Times of India she made the change about a year ago purely for positive energy: “I removed Ahuja and added an extra S in my first name. … It was done purely for numerology purpose. I want name and fame, who doesn’t right?”
She acknowledged this tweak had paid off, citing the viral buzz she’s experienced recently. Reinforcing that the change was limited to her Instagram profile, Sunita made it clear that in real life, she remains an Ahuja: “I am an Ahuja, and that won’t change. The surname will only be dropped when I leave the world,” she stated.
Sunita also addressed swirling divorce rumors, which flared when she removed her surname. In candid interviews, she rejected them outright and defended her marriage. Speaking to Times Now, she referred to the gossip as baseless and reaffirmed her bond with Govinda: “Govinda would never leave his family for any stupid person or stupid woman…Rumour, rumour, rumour—first ask whether it's even true. I will never accept it…”.
In another interview on Deccan Talks, she hinted at difficulties over the years—saying, “Pata nahi kis ki nazar lag gayi”—suggesting outside pressures—but added that their love and loyalty endured.
Reflecting on rumors of Govinda’s alleged past affairs, Sunita admitted coping with “link-up rumours” wasn’t easy, and though her trust had been affected, she stayed composed.
Married since 1987, Sunita and Govinda are parents to two children—Tina and Yashvardhan—yet throughout nearly four decades together, she emphasizes their bond and warns skeptics: if there’s any truth to divorce, they will announce it themselves.
