I’m Not For Sale”: Shashi Tharoor Slams Troll Accusing Him Of Paid Review For Aryan Khan’s The Bads Of Bollywood
When senior politician Shashi Tharoor posted a glowing review of the web-series The Bads of Bollywood (director Aryan Khan) for Netflix India, a social-media user accused him of submitting a “paid review”. The troll commented: “Shashi Tharoor new side business – Paid reviews.”
Rather than ignore the remark, Tharoor responded decisively: “I’m not for sale, my friend. No opinion I express has ever been paid for by anybody, in cash or in kind.”
Earlier, on 26 October, Tharoor had praised the series on X (formerly Twitter). He tagged Shah Rukh Khan (Aryan Khan’s father) and wrote that the actor‐producer “must be proud” of his son’s work. He described the show as “absolute OTT gold,” saying he had been battling a cold and cough, had cancelled engagements for two days, and that his staff and sister had persuaded him to take a break from his computer and turn to this series.
In his review Tharoor said: “Just finished watching Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, The Bads of Bollywood, and I’m left grasping for words of praise. It takes time to grow on you, but then you’re irresistibly hooked! The writing is sharp, the direction is fearless, and the sheer audacity of this satire is just what Bollywood needed. A genius, often hilarious, sometimes moving, and always unflinching look beyond the glamour, sending up every cinematic cliché with razor-like wit – and a series of insider jokes that let the audience into the act & behind the scenes.” He concluded: “The seven compelling episodes mark the arrival of a true storytelling powerhouse. Take a bow, Aryan Khan – you’ve delivered a masterpiece.” He further added to Shah Rukh Khan: “From one father to another, let me say: you must be so proud.”
The web-series features a cast including Bobby Deol, Lakshya Lalwani, Raghav Juyal, Sahher Bambba, Anya Singh, Manoj Pahwa, Manish Chaudhari, Rajat Bedi, Mona Singh and Gautami Kapoor, among others.
Additionally, the show features cameo appearances from big names such as Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh, Disha Patani and S S Rajamouli.
