All eyes were glued to screens as Chandraayan 2's moon lander Vikram reached to its final stage. Sadly, it lost connection with ISRO and hopes moved to tears. Yet, India is proud of ISRO. It is a great achievement in itself and we all stand by the team of scientists led by K Sivan who worked day in and out on Chandraayan 2. ISRO Chief made the announcement and we even saw in breaking down into tears as he met PM Narendra Modi to share the details. K Sivan showed immense courage and was available to discuss every detail. 

Coming from humble beginnings, K Sivan is the son of a farmer and used to help his father barefoot in farms when he was a kid. He studied in a Tamil medium school and after graduating from ST Hindu College in Nagercoil, Sivan completed his aeronautical engineering from Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1980. Sivan then went on to complete a Master's in engineering from IISc in 1982. In 2006, he received a PhD in aerospace engineering from IIT Bombay.


It was in 2018 that he was appointed as the Chief of ISRO and he started work on Chandrayaan 2 with the team of astonished scientists. In one of the interviews, Sivan spoke about how he used to help his father in farm and stated, "I continued wearing vesti (dhoti) till college. I wore pants for the first time when I entered MIT." Sivan is fondly known as the Rocket Man in ISRO and he sure made everyone proud.
