Jaya Bachchan-Swati Maliwal Accused Of Provoking The Hyderabad Encounter; Advocate Files A Petition In The SC
The Hyderabad gang-rape and murder came as a huge shock for all the Indians, who outraged and demanded justice for Dr Disha. Among many others, the list also included actress-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan and Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women Swati Maliwal, who said that the culprits should be lynched in public. Soon after a few days, we woke up to the news of all the four accused being shot dead in an encounter by the Hyderabad police. Reportedly, it happened because the four tried to escape while on their way to the crime reconstruction site.

Now, a senior PIL litigant who goes by the name of Advocate ML Sharma has submitted a petition in the Supreme Court in regards to the encounter done by the Hyderabad police. A report in Live Law suggests that through his petition, Sharma wants to challenge the killings that took place in the police custody because, as per him, they were "on behest of political leaders and media outrage". Sharma also wants to seek "protection of life and liberty of the citizen of Indian from police killing, mob lynching and extrajudicial contra to Article 21". The Advocate has further accused political leaders like Jaya Bachchan, Swati Maliwal and others of provoking the encounter.

His petition adds that it happened "due to the political demand by political leaders" and because there was a "media trial" along with a "hue and cry" to kill them immediately. He also demanded action against Bachchan and Maliwal specifically for "provoking extrajudicial killings of those in police custody without trial". ML Sharma has also requested for a compensatory amount of Rs 20 lakh for the families of those who were shot dead in the encounter.
