Businessman Sunjay Kapur, former husband of actress Karisma Kapoor, tragically passed away on Thursday in England at age 53, succumbing to a massive heart attack while playing polo

According to actor-author Suhel Seth, who confirmed the news via social media, “Deeply saddened at the passing of @sunjaykapur: he passed away earlier today in England: a terrible loss and deepest condolences to his family and to his colleagues @sonacomstar …Om Shanti” 

Eyewitnesses and reports outline the shocking circumstances: during the game, Sunjay accidentally swallowed a bee, which became lodged in his throat and caused sudden panic, likely triggering the fatal heart attack .

Just hours before this tragic incident, Sunjay posted a heartfelt message regarding the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash: “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour,” on his X account 

Sunjay’s wedding to Karisma in 2003 was a grand Bollywood event, and although their relationship later became strained, they stayed connected through their two children, daughter Samaira and son Kiaan. The couple separated in 2010 and finalized their divorce in 2016 Before Karisma, Sunjay was married to designer Nandita Mahtani. Post-divorce, he entered his third marriage to Priya Sachdev, and the couple had a son in 2018 

Following news of his death, Bollywood celebrities like Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Malaika Arora, and Amrita Arora visited Karisma’s Mumbai home to offer their condolences
