Maharashtra Rains Latest Updates: Landslides Disrupt Mumbai-Pune Rail Services, Expressway Traffic Hit

Heavy monsoon showers continue to wreak havoc across Maharashtra, severely affecting both rail and road connectivity between Mumbai and Pune. Multiple landslides triggered by incessant rainfall have disrupted train services, while authorities have temporarily shut key stretches of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune Highway as a precautionary measure.

The worst-hit stretch is the Karjat-Lonavala Bhor Ghat section, where landslides occurred between Thakurwadi and Monkey Hill, leaving debris on railway tracks and forcing Central Railway to suspend train operations. Several long-distance trains have been cancelled, diverted, or rescheduled as restoration teams work to clear the affected tracks. Officials have urged passengers to check the latest train status before beginning their journey.

Road traffic has also taken a major hit. A landslide near the ghat section prompted authorities to halt movement on both the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old national highway during the early hours of Monday. The closure resulted in long traffic queues, with emergency teams deployed to remove debris and assess the stability of the affected hillside before reopening the route.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heavy rainfall is likely to continue across parts of Maharashtra, increasing the risk of further landslides, waterlogging, and transport disruptions. Authorities have advised commuters to avoid non-essential travel, follow official traffic advisories, and plan journeys only after confirming the operational status of roads and railway services.
