Mahesh Bhatt Joins Protest Against CAB; Rangoli Chandel Asks ‘What’s Wrong In Hindus Protecting Themselves?’
On December 12, the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) was passed into an act by the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, after it was sanctioned by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind. CAB grants Indian citizenship to all the non-Muslim refugees residing in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, who had to undergo migration owing to religious conflicts. This historic decision has opened to mixed response across the country, while a section of people has welcomed it with open arms; a lot of citizens are expressing their displeasure in the form of protests. One such protest, held on Sunday, was joined by Mahesh Bhatt.

The veteran filmmaker, along with Congress leader Sanjay Jha, raised their voice over CAB. “It's time for people to stand up and say this country belongs to each one of us and it is the might and the will of each one of us that has finally found an expression. That curve has come, India has spoken this Sunday morning. All of you gathering here is evidence that the core, soul of India is alive. Today we dedicate ourselves to the core idea of India which has been spelt out by our predecessors in this sacred document which we all swear and live by," he said to the crowd. Further, he also took to his social media and raised his concern over the act.

Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel, who happens to be a staunch nationalist, was quick to take notice and respond to the filmmaker. She questioned Bhatt by tweeting, “Bhatt saab there are almost 50 Muslim countries in the world, close to 80 Christian/Catholic countries on this planet but in this entire world only one Hindu country, kyun mirchi lag rahi hain aapko if we protecting ourselves, kahan jayenge Hindus ?”

Chandel added, “When we gave separate Pakistan on the insistence of Muslim league then why now we are shamed for calling this a Hindu nation, it is a Hindu nation and it will always be one, Sudhar jao Tukde gang.”

Rangoli Chandel has always been vocal on criticising the Bhatts. In the past, she had accused Mahesh of throwing shoes at her sister Kangana Ranaut, during a film’s screening.
