Dr Bankole Johnson, a prominent neuroscientist, suggests Perry might have obtained the substance illicitly, possibly for recreational use. Speaking to Page Six, he has highlighted the likelihood of Matthew Perry's ketamine use being recreational. The medical professional underscores the risks associated with combining ketamine and buprenorphine, a medication Perry was taking for opioid addiction, deeming it a potentially hazardous mix. Matthew Perry's recent ketamine infusion therapy, aimed at addressing depression and anxiety, was recorded just over a week before his passing. Dr. Johnson underscores the significance of professional oversight in ketamine use, emphasizing the IV drip method for precise dosage regulation and cautioning against self-administered intranasal approaches. In contrast, Jennifer Aniston, Perry's friend and 'Friends' co-star, shared with Variety, "He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy — that’s all I know.…I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty. He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was happy." Furthermore,  The autopsy findings revealed an absence of alcohol, as well as the absence of substances like cocaine, heroin, or fentanyl in Matthew Perry's system. However, the report does not provide details on how or when Perry may have ingested the fatal quantity of ketamine.

The late actor is renowned for portraying Chandler Bing on the popular TV sitcom Friends, was discovered unconscious in the hot tub of his residence on October 28th.
