Mother is the epitome of love and affection. India will unofficially observe Mother’s Day throughout the country on the second Sunday of May. This day recognizes the bond between mothers and children and the vast importance of “mothering” to the overall well-being of Indian society.

To celebrate mothers, Bollywood has created several songs dedicated to mothers over the years, reiterating the importance of 'Maa' in our lives.

Chunar - ABCD 2

Bollywood never fails to disappoint when it comes to our emotions. Chunar from 'ABCD 2’ features Varun Dhawan performing a contemporary dance number remembering his mother. Sung by Arijit Singh, the lyrics of this song are written by Mayur Suri. 

Luka Chuppi - Rang De Basanti

Luka Chuppi is one of the most iconic songs from the film 'Rang De Basanti' and it is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and A.R. Rehman and penned by Prasoon Joshi and A.R. Rehman. The soulful track received a great response from the audience and has received over 34 million times.

Meri Maa - Yaariyaan

Sung by the legendary singer K.K. and penned by Irshad Kamil the song is from the film Yaariyaan.

Tu Kitni Achhi Hai - Raja Aur Runk

Mother’s Day would be incomplete without this timeless classic. Crooned by Lata Mangeshkar, 'Tu Kitni Achhi Hai' is from the 1968 film 'Raja Aur Runk'. The music was created by Laxmikant-Pyarelal, while the lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi. Nirupa Roy, Bollywood's favourite on-screen mother, is featured in the song.

Maa - Taare Zameen Par 

This song needs no introduction, while the film was already an emotional rollercoaster, this song was just a cherry on the top and one can hardly hold back on their tears. Sung by Shankar Mahadevan, the song features music directors Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani, and Loy Mendonca.
