Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away in wee hours on Monday, October 10. As per the reports, the veteran leader suffered breathing issues and he was rushed to the hospital and shifted to ICU on October 2.
As tributes and condolences have already started pouring from several parts of the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid homage to the late politician and leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, calling him a ‘humble and grounded leader’.
Remembering him, PM Modi took to Twitter and wrote, "Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji was a remarkable personality. He was widely admired as a humble and grounded leader who was sensitive to peoples problems. He served people diligently and devoted his life towards popularising the ideals of Loknayak JP and Dr. Lohia."
The former UP Chief minister was undergoing treatment at a Gurugram hospital since August. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced three-day state mourning and said the last rites of Mr Yadav will be performed with full state honours.
The Prime Minister of India also shared pictures of him in a series of tweets and expressed his anguish over the veteran politician's death. He addressed the late leader as a key soldier for democracy during the Emergency.
Sharing a series of pictures, PM Modi wrote, "Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji distinguished himself in UP and national politics. He was a key soldier for democracy during the Emergency. As Defence Minister, he worked for a stronger India. His Parliamentary interventions were insightful and emphasised on furthering national interest."
In another tweet, PM Modi pointed out that Mulayam Singh Yadav served people diligently, and devoted his life towards popularising the ideals of Jayaprakash Narayan, Ram Manohar Lohia,
Meanwhile, President Draupadi Murmu said the achievements of Mulayam Singh Yadav, who came from an ordinary environment, were extraordinary.
