Police Complaint Filed Against Vijay For Allegedly ‘Insulting Muslims’ At Iftar Event In Chennai, Investigation Underway: Report

A complaint has been filed against actor-turned-politician Vijay, accusing him of disrespecting the Muslim community during an Iftar event hosted by his party in Chennai. The complaint alleges that Vijay made remarks that offended religious sentiments and called for legal action against him, including a public apology.
The Iftar gathering, held at the YMCA grounds in Royapettah, was organized as an outreach effort by Vijay’s party. However, it reportedly turned chaotic due to poor management. Although around 3,000 passes were issued, over 5,000 people showed up, leading to overcrowding. Many Muslims with valid invitations were allegedly denied entry, while non-Muslim party members who were not invited forced their way inside, occupying limited space. This resulted in confrontations between the attendees and organizers.
Vijay arrived at the venue dressed in traditional Muslim attire and participated in breaking the fast alongside community members and party supporters. During his address, he greeted the attendees warmly, acknowledging their presence and expressing his respect for Islamic teachings. Despite this, the allegations suggest that certain statements or actions during the event may have been perceived as offensive.
The police have confirmed receiving the complaint and stated that an inquiry will be conducted. If evidence supports the claims, further legal steps may be taken. The incident has sparked discussions among political and religious groups about the need for sensitivity and better planning during events involving diverse communities. Authorities are expected to review the details of the complaint and provide an update on their course of action soon.
