Rahul Dravid REFUSES Extra Bonus Of Rs 2.5 Crores From BCCI After T20 World Cup Win, Requests Equal Reward For Every Coaching Staff!
India's outgoing cricket coach, Rahul Dravid, has once again demonstrated his gentlemanly nature through a recent, commendable gesture. After India clinched the T20 World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a generous prize of Rs. 125 crore for the victorious team, coaching staff, and support personnel. Among this reward, Rahul Dravid was allocated Rs. 5 crore, while other support staff members received Rs. 2.5 crore each. However, in a remarkable display of humility and fairness, Dravid requested that his bonus be equalized to match the Rs. 2.5 crore given to his fellow coaches.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, Dravid advocated for equal pay for his coaching team, which includes Vikram Rathore, T Dilip, and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey. A BCCI source highlighted Dravid's humility, stating, "Rahul wanted the same bonus money (Rs. 2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff... We respect his sentiments."

Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle praised Dravid's decision, highlighting how it underscored his humility. Bhogle tweeted, "In a world where 'come-look-at-me' is a disease and paid PR is an acceptable way of life, Rahul Dravid makes humility look cool. It is what we must aspire for in our profession; to achieve greatness and let it rest simply upon us."

This act of fairness and modesty is not unprecedented for Dravid. In 2018, while leading India’s U-19 World Cup-winning team, he made a similar request. At that time, Dravid was to receive Rs. 50 lakh, whereas other team members and support staff were to get Rs. 20 lakh each. Dravid refused his higher payment and urged the BCCI to revise the distribution so everyone would receive an equal Rs. 25 lakh.

The recent gesture further solidifies Dravid's reputation as a person of high integrity and humility. On July 9, 2024, Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma paid homage to Dravid with an emotional note and a series of pictures shared on social media, reflecting their warm relationship and mutual respect. Dravid’s actions serve as an inspiration, highlighting the values of fairness and humility in a profession often characterized by personal ambition and public recognition. His legacy is not only marked by his cricketing achievements but also by his exemplary character and leadership off the field.
