Renowned Author Khaled Hosseini's Daughter Comes out as Transgender, The Kite Runner Writer Says, 'Never Been Prouder Of Her'
Renowned author of the novels, The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, Khaled Hosseini, has an emotional note for his daughter Haris who recently came out as a transgender. As per the author, Haris, 21, has taught his family about ‘bravery and truth’.

The author shared a picture along with the letter which read: “Yesterday, my daughter Haris came out as transgender. I have never been prouder of her. She has taught our family so much about bravery and truth.”


He added, “I know this process was painful for her. She is sober to the cruelty trans people are subjected to. But she is strong and undaunted.”

Sharing the news, Hosseini also shared a picture of himself and little Haris. From the looks of it, the image was clicked during one of their beach outings. The novelist also said, “I love my daughter. She is beautiful, wise, and brilliant. I will be by her side every step of the way. Our family stands behind her.”


Furthermore, he also spoke about Haris’ journey as he said, “I have known about Haris' journey since last year and I've watched her navigate some very trying personal times. Transitioning is such a complicated undertaking—emotionally, physically, socially, psychologically—but Haris has met each challenge with grace, patience, and wisdom.”

Hosseini shared that he felt proud, and added, “I am delighted to now have not one but two beautiful daughters. Most of all, I am inspired by Haris' fearlessness, her courage to share with the world her true self.”
