Saiyami Kher, known for her roles in Ghoomer and Choked, recently opened up about a disturbing casting couch experience she faced at the age of 19 or 20. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, she recounted how a female casting agent approached her for a role in a Telugu film. What began as a standard professional conversation took a troubling turn when the agent suggested she would need to "make compromises" to secure the role.
The term "make compromises" is often a euphemism for engaging in inappropriate activities in exchange for work. Saiyami was particularly shocked that such a suggestion came from another woman. She recalled, "I was trying to test her, because it was a woman saying it to another woman. I felt that deeply."
Attempting to clarify the agent's intentions, Saiyami responded, "Ma'am, I'm not understanding what you are saying." Despite her probing, the agent persisted, eventually stating, "See, you have to understand." To this, Saiyami firmly replied, "I'm sorry that you feel I'm someone who needs to go down this route. There are certain limits I have never crossed in my life."
This incident was a rare but significant moment in Saiyami's career, highlighting the challenges and pressures actors can face in the industry. She began her acting journey with the Telugu film Rey in 2015, followed by her Bollywood debut in Mirzya in 2016. Despite early setbacks, she gained recognition for her performances in films like Choked and Ghoomer, where she portrayed a one-armed cricketer.
