Shashi Tharoor’s Reply To A Student That Asked Him To Teach A New Word Is Taking The Internet By Storm – VIDEO
Congress Party’s MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor, is popular for his exceptional vocabulary and super-fluent English. Not to forget the fact that even a casual statement made by Shashi Tharoor creates havoc because he uses at least one word that most of us have never heard of. Remember ‘Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia’? We bet you didn’t even bother reading the whole word. LOL! While the politician is lauded for his impressive vocab skills, he claims that he has barely opened a dictionary in his life. Unbelievable, haina?

It all happened at a recent event where the Congress MP was asked by a student to teach them a new word. As a response to the same, Tharoor revealed how reading is the key to acquire the right vocabulary. He said, “I will give you a very simple, very old word. Read, that's the only way I have acquired a vocabulary. People think that I am some sort of nutcase who studies the dictionary all day long, I have barely opened a dictionary in my life, but I have read extensively. And if you read widely, you read extensively and if you come across the same word in three different contexts, in three different books, you will understand the meaning and the usage very quickly. So, the reason I was like that is, of course, I had some advantages over all of you. I lived in an India without television, without computers, without Nintendo, without play station, without mobile phones.”

Further, Shashi added how extensive reading has helped him reach where he is today. Ever since he was a kid, he would read and only read. “All I had were books, books for my escape, books for my education, and because I read, I read above my age level. I developed the kind of mind that God has now blessed me with and I acquired the vocabulary that comes with it. So, my only advice to all of you is read, read, read. The more you read, the better your vocabulary will also be,” concluded Shashi.
