A struggling actress from Kanpur city has accused a Lucknow businessman of raping her and blackmailing her with obscene videos under the pretext of giving her acting jobs

No matter how many shocking cases of casting couch in the entertainment industry surface on the internet, the practice continues to this day. A new case has surfaced where a struggling actress from Kanpur city has accused a Lucknow-based businessman raping her under the pretext of giving her work in the film industry. According to a recent report by the Free Press Journal, the accused, who promised her work in music videos and films, is the chairman of an entertainment and production company in Lucknow. 

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against five people including the accused based on the victim’s complaint. She stated that she came in contact with the businessman as she aspired to be an actress. In her complaint, she explained that it was in 2023, that the chairman had offered her work in music videos and films that his company would be producing. On May 9, 2023, they stayed at a Mumbai hotel.  

She went on to claim, that the accused spiked her drink and raped her, during their stay at a Mumbai hotel. She accused the entertainment production company chairman of shooting her obscene videos after he spiked her drinks with sedatives. He proceeded to blackmail her and take her to various hotels in cities like Hyderabad and Guwahati, where he raped her, she alleged. 

The report by the media publication states that the victim told the officials that she was forced by the accused to establish a relationship with a businessman. When her refused to do so, he threatened to kill her and finish off her family. FPJ reports that the case was lodged in the Nazirabad police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on April 2. Investigation on the matter is underway and the police stated that they will act on it based on the evidence gathered.
