Smriti Irani Recalls Doing A Sanitary Pad Advertisement When They Ensured DEATH Of A Career; Says, ‘Eager To Start My Stint, I Said Yes!’
Smriti Irani took to social media to share on of her old advertisements, where she can be see talking about the importance of sanitary pads
The Minister for Women & Child Development and Minority Affairs, Smriti Irani has made a big name for herself in the 2000s when she shot to fame with Ekta Kapoor’s hit television serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Not many know this, that as an actress to get a head start on her career, the actress had to shoot many commercials, one of them being a sanitary pad advertisement. She recently took to her Instagram handle to share the ad and recalled why she took up the role.
She shared the video, where she talks about periods and how pads are useful for women during those tough five days, on her official social media handle. Smriti spoke about how she took up the job, hee first ad ever for a big company, 25 years ago. She revealed that the subject was not a fancy one and that many were “averse to the assignment since a sanitary pad advertisement ensured the death of a glamour based career for the model involved.” However, she took the role because she wanted to get a start in front of the camera. The 47-year-old further wrote, “After all why should a conversation re menstrual hygiene be taboo. Fans immediately took to the comment section of the post to heap praises on her. Many got nostalgic as they showered her with love for doing an advertisement that was way ahead of time. One wrote, “Yeah I remember doing an ad for Stayfree and the entire shoot not once was the word period mentioned, it was always “un dino”.” Another wrote, “Madame Minister, you have certainly come a long way! An excell Minister and formidable and seasoned politician. Inspirational!”
For the unversed, Smriti made her acting debut with Aatish in 1999, before she featured in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi from 2000-2008. She quit acting in 2013, and decided to join politics.
