SonyLIV Issues Apology After Receiving Severe Backlash From Netizens And Police Over Their Promotional Phone Call Claiming Murder

SonyLIV Issues Apology After Receiving Severe Backlash From Netizens And Police Over Their Promotional Phone Call Claiming Murder
TV channel Sony Entertainment’s OTT Platform SonyLIV is being slammed left right and centre for its promotional gimmick. Recently, a few people received a call from a man named Rishi, who tells them that he has witnessed a murder and now the murderer is behind his life, in his shivering voice. It is only towards the end of the call, he reveals that it is a promotional call from SonyLIV for their upcoming show Undekhi. As soon as people received the call, they took to social media and tagged Mumbai Police and Cyber Cell with the recorded audio. Netizens have slammed the makers for their cheap publicity gimmick.

After facing severe wrath of netizens, SonyLIV has now taken to their official Twitter handle and has issued an apology for causing inconvenience to its viewers. They Tweeted, “If you have received a call for our show Undekhi & it has disturbed you we would like to sincerely apologise to you. This was a test activity that has gone out accidentally & our intention was not to cause any kind of discomfort or panic. We sincerely regret any inconvenience.” Mumbai Police and Maharashtra Cyber Cell unit also posted a precautionary message. 

Slamming the channel a user wrote, “Such things don't go out accidentally. It was pre-planned, but now that it has backfired, u r giving this stupid statement. COVID has caused enough trauma, now we don't want u to add to it. Next time try it on ur own ppl first,” while another wrote, “This is a shameless way of promotion. Worst creative idea. People are already disturbed in #COVID19Pandemic. Many lost their loved once, many loosing job, people are in debt and #SonyLIV wants 2 earn by creating chaos #shameonsonilyliv @MahaCyber1 @MumbaiPolice kindly take action.”



Speaking about the show, Undekhi stars an ensemble cast of Harsh Chhaya, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Ankur Rathee, Surya Sharma, Anchal Singh, Abhishek Chauhan among many others.
