Thalapathy Vijay Receives Hoax Bomb Threat At Neelankarai Residence; No Explosives Found, Police Investigate
On the morning of October 9, 2025, actor-politician Thalapathy Vijay received a bomb threat via email targeting his Neelankarai residence in Chennai. The email warned that explosives had been planted at his home. In response, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) was promptly dispatched to the location. The team initiated a search around 3 a.m., initially focusing on the exterior of the property. Upon Vijay's arrival, the search expanded to the interior, but no suspicious items were found. By 7:25 a.m., the threat was officially declared a hoax .
Authorities noted that similar bomb threat emails had been sent to other prominent individuals in Chennai, including actress Trisha and actor-politician S.V. Shekher. These threats were traced to an unverified Hotmail account. An Assistant Commissioner of Police mentioned that the content of these emails was strikingly similar, and efforts were underway to identify the source.
The timing of the threat is significant, coming shortly after a tragic stampede at a rally in Karur on September 27, 2025, which resulted in 41 deaths and over 100 injuries. The incident has led to increased scrutiny of Vijay's political activities and public gatherings. In the aftermath, Vijay has called for an independent investigation into the stampede under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
Following the bomb threat, security measures around Vijay's residence have been heightened. Police have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the hoax threat and to ensure the safety of public figures in the region.
