Twitterati BLASTS Pakistan's Former Pacer Shoaib Akhtar For Suggesting An Indo-Pak Match To Help Raise Money To Fight COVID-19
COVID-19 compelled the human race to press the pause button in their lives. With the country is facing lockdown, from commoners to influential figures across the world have lent their support in raising funds for their respective nation to fight against this pandemic.  Thus, now pushing the envelope for the same is Pakistan’s cricket team's former pacer Shoaib Akhtar. As per reports the former player has suggested of a one-day match to be played between India and Pakistan in order to raise funds to fight COVID-19.

As per reports in PTI, the former pacer's suggestion mentioned this ODI to be a closed-door affair. Also to make it neutral, this series can take place in Dubai, where the players can be flown via charter plane. Adding further as the country is in the lockdown period, this series would garner a lot of viewership. Thus, allowing both the countries to generate maximum revenue, which can be further divided between the countries and put to use to fight against Coronavirus.

Ever since 2012-2013, India and Pakistan did not play any particular series besides the Asia Cup and ICC tournaments. This suggestion of the former player received a lot of brickbats on the micro-blogging site.

Ranting and blowing off in anger many on Twitter, simply gave a thumbs down to this suggestion. Few even reminded of the attacks faced by India from the neighbouring country. Whereas few others also taking potshots at this suggestion asked Pakistan’s government to first help their minorities on their own and then ask for help from others. “In this time of crisis, I want to propose a three-match series in which for the first time, the people of neither country would be upset at the outcome of the games. If Virat (Kohli) scores a hundred, we will be happy, if Babar Azam scores a hundred, you will be happy. Both teams will be winners irrespective of whatever happens on the field,” said Shoaib Akhtar. “It can be a TV only affair. Since everyone will be watching at home, you are bound to get massive viewership for the games. For the first time, both countries will play for each other. And whatever funds are generated through this can be donated equally to the government of India and Pakistan to fight this pandemic,” he added further.

“Everyone is sitting at home at the moment, so there will be a massive following for the games. Maybe not now, when things start improving, the games could be organised at a neutral location like Dubai. Chartered flights could be arranged and the matches could be held.”

He also hopes with this series, the ties between the countries, might improve too, he said, “It could even lead to a resumption of bilateral cricketing ties and relations of both countries improve diplomatically. You never know.”

"The whole world will tune into it, so much money can be raised to deal with this crisis. In difficult times, the character of the nation comes forward. If India can make 10,000 ventilators for us, Pakistan will remember this gesture forever. But we can only propose the matches. The rest is up to the authorities (to decide),” Shoaib further said.

Also shedding light on Indian players Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh being slammed for urging people to support Shahid Afridi's charity he said, “It was inhuman to criticise them. It is not about countries or religion at the moment, it is about humanity.”
