Kobe Bryant’s widow Vanessa Bryant lost her husband and 13-year-old daughter Gianna to a tragic helicopter crash in January 2020. The news of Kobe Bryant’s helicopter crash hit headlines pretty soon with pictures from the crash site surfacing on the internet. Now, according to the latest report, Vanessa has filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles County sheriff alleging a ‘cover-up’ of unauthorized crash photos that were shared. The NBA player died on January 26, in a tragic helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, with his daughter Gianna and seven others.
According to a report in The New York Times, Vanessa Bryant's lawsuit seeks damages for negligence, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The report stated that the suit alleged, “no fewer than 8 sheriff’s deputies at the crash site, pulled out their personal cell phones and snapped photos of the dead children, parents and coaches. The deputies took these photos for their own personal gratification.” Vanessa Bryant’s lead attorney, Luis Li said that the lawsuit she has filed is about accountability and about preventing the disgraceful behaviour from happening to other families in the future who have suffered loss.
As per the report, the lawsuit alleges that Villanueva tried to cover up what the deputies had done. Reportedly, Villanueva accepted that eight deputies took or shared pictures of the victims of the crash in Calabasas. He also mentioned about ordering the photos to be destroyed immediately and said that one of the pictures was shared from outside of the department. The reports stated that the lawsuit also alleges one of the deputies showed some pictures from the crash to a woman and a bartender overheard them and reported it to the Sheriff’s department.
For the unversed, after the crash in January 2020, reports in Los Angeles Times investigation mentioned that the deputies had taken and shared pictures from the accident scene.
