Vardhaan Puri On Janmashtami Celebrations With Family, Says Lord Krishna’s Teachings Keep Him Grounded!

As the country comes together to celebrate Janmashtami, actor Vardhaan Puri reflects on the festival, his childhood memories associated with it and the timeless teachings of Lord Krishna. For the actor, the occasion is not merely about rituals and festivities but also about finding faith, joy and perspective in everyday life.
Talking about what Janmashtami means to him and how he celebrates the festival, Vardhaan shares, “Janmashtami, for me, is a beautiful reminder of faith, joy and the importance of finding light even in difficult times. Krishna represents so many things at once - wisdom, mischief, love and courage. I usually celebrate it with family, spend some quiet time in prayer and of course, enjoy the festive food. What I love most is the sense of togetherness the festival brings and the peace it gives my soul. Lord Krishna is pure love.”
The festival also takes him back to some particularly emotional childhood memories. Recalling those moments, he says, “Some of my fondest memories are of celebrating Janmashtami with my family, especially the excitement around the decorations, the music and the midnight celebration. As a child, there was something magical about waiting for midnight for Krishna’s birth. It’s surreal and makes me very emotional every single time.”
Interestingly, when asked which quality of Krishna he relates to the most, Vardhaan points towards his playful side. “I think I relate most to Krishna’s playful nature. I genuinely believe life shouldn’t be taken too seriously all the time. There should always be room for humour, mischief and spontaneity. At the same time, Krishna teaches us that being playful and being wise can coexist, and I find that balance very fascinating.”
The actor also finds immense relevance in the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, particularly the importance of focusing on one’s actions rather than the outcome. He says, “The teaching I try to remind myself of most is to focus on the action rather than becoming consumed by the result. You have control over your effort, your intentions and your work, but not always over the outcome. As someone who works in a creative and unpredictable field with high risk and higher reward, that philosophy is incredibly grounding for me.”
With mythology continuing to inspire Indian cinema, Vardhaan also reveals the kind of Krishna story he would love to see on screen. “I would love to see the lesser-explored, human side of Krishna on screen, not just the divine figure, but the man who was a friend, a strategist, a lover, a leader and someone who understood human nature incredibly well. His relationship with Arjuna and the circumstances that led to the Bhagavad Gita have enormous cinematic potential. If told with emotional depth rather than just spectacle, I think Krishna’s story could become an incredibly powerful and contemporary piece of cinema.”
For Vardhaan, Janmashtami is a celebration that goes beyond tradition and festivities. It is a reminder to embrace faith, remain grounded in one’s actions and find joy even amidst life’s challenges. His perspective on Krishna also reflects his belief in storytelling that looks beyond the familiar, exploring the emotional and human dimensions of iconic characters.
