Mihir Das Passes Away Due To Renal Ailments: PM Modi Tweets, ‘During His Long Film Career, He Won Many Hearts Thanks To His Creative Performances My Thoughts Are With His Family And Admirers’
Veteran Odia actor Mihir Das passed away on Tuesday. He breathed his last at the age of 63; he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law. His wife passed away in 2010 due to a heart attack. The actor was undergoing treatment for his renal ailments which he was suffering for many years. He was admitted to a private hospital on December 9, 2021.  He was on ventilator support. CM Naveen Patnaik paying his condolence shared the actor will be laid to rest with full state honours at Cuttack.

His last rites will take place today. Mourning his death was Governor Ganeshi Lal, his Andhra Pradesh counterpart B B Harichandan, Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik, BJP state chief Samir Mohanty and more. OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik paying his last respect tweeted, “Saddened over the demise of veteran actor Mihir Das. His indelible footprints in Odisha's art world will remain alive. It's an irreparable loss for the Odia cine world. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family.” 

BJP national VP Baijayant Panda Tweeted, “I am crestfallen hearing the news. It is an end of an era. Mihir Das was a household name in Odisha and he was known for his sharp acting skills. I extend my deepest sympathies for the grieving family.”


Prime Minister Narendra Modi too paid his last tribute, his tweet read, “Saddened by the demise of noted Odia actor Shri Mihir Das Ji. During his long film career, he won many hearts thanks to his creative performances. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Born on February 11, 1959 in the Mayurbhanj district, he began his acting career with an art film, School Master, followed by which he featured in a commercial movie, Mathura Bijay in 1979. He has won the state government's best actor award for his movies, Laxmi Pratima, Pheria Mo Suna Bhauni, he also bagged the best comedian award for his movie, Mu Tate Love Karuchhi. 

He also tried his hands in politics. He joined Biju Janata Dal in 2014, later quit the party to join BJP in 2019.
