As people are devasted with Coronavirus unleashing in the world, we came across an old video of the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation, Bill Gates from TED Talks where he clearly mentioned and predicted that people will be affected with microbes or viruses in coming years. He has warned us about the next epidemic which sort of has sent chills down our spine. Watch the video below:
Needless to say how the novel Coronavirus is currently making the world paralyzed and it has forced a lockdown on people’s lives. This lethal virus has taken over many lives as it is spreading and growing at a rapid speed. However, did you know, back in 2015, Bill Gates had already warned us about the next epidemic? Yes, we have got a video of the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation, Bill Gates from TED Talks where he clearly mentioned that people will be affected with microbes and not missiles. He talks about the next epidemic and how we are not prepared for the next epidemic. Rightly said by Bill Gates, 5 years after he spoke, the outcome of the next epidemic is Coronavirus pandemic which is only becoming worse day by day.
However, his talk about the epidemic sort of sends chills down our spine. In the video, he starts his speech by reminding us about the nuclear war, he says, "When I was a kid, the disaster we worried about most was a nuclear war." While talking about how one used to collect barrels of food and water underground whenever a war occurred. He then says, "Today the greatest risk of global catastrophe doesn't like this (showing the image of a nuclear blast), instead, it looks like this (showing an image of a virus which kind of looks like Coronavirus)”
He further says, "If anything kills over 10 million people in the next few decades, it's most likely to be a highly infectious virus rather than a war. Not missiles, but microbes." Bill then talks about the reason behind this which is, "We've invested a huge amount in nuclear deterrents. But we've actually invested very little in a system to stop an epidemic. We are not ready for the next epidemic."
He took an example of Ebola that had hit the globe, leading many lives into a disaster. To which he said, "The problem wasn't that there was a system that didn't work well enough, the problem was that we didn't have a system at all.” He also pointed out the issues that how we didn't have certain groups ready like the epidemiologists, the medical team, and thousands of workers for the treatment. Since there were a lot of things missing, he says that these things are really a global failure.
