in on Saif Ali Khan.
With Karan Johar swearing not to cast any
Pakistani talent in his future projects, his next with Katrina Kaif was left
without a leading man. Karan had earlier paired Katrina with Pakistani
heartthrob Fawad Khan but the Indo-Pak tensions played spoilsport to those
plans.
This casting is an interesting one because
this is Karan's third attempt to woo Saif Ali Khan.
Karan wanted Saif to play Aishwarya Rai
Bachchan's ex-husband in ADHM but the casting coup fell apart. Karan then asked
Shah Rukh Khan to step in.
That sorted, Karan reportedly turned to
Saif once again. After the inclusion of Fawad Khan in the cast threatened the
release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Karan was reportedly looking to replace him with
Saif Ali Khan.
That too did not happen as Fawad's
appearance was retained in the film's final cut.
But it looks like Saif may after all step
into Fawad's shoes. Karan has now approached him for his next, opposite Katrina
Kaif.
As per sources Saif Ali Khan was not
Karan's first choice. The filmmaker originally considered casting his
favourite, Sidharth Malhotra in the project but the failure of Baar Baar Dekho
made Karan reverse his decision.
Saif Ali Khan had earlier starred Dharma’s
Kal Ho Na Ho, but he has never been directed by Karan Johar.
