Baaghi vs The Raid: Redemption – Tiger Shroff admits, director refutes similarities

Ever since the online debut of Shraddha Kapoor and Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi trailer, there have been reports about multiple similarities between the Bollywood film and the highly-acclaimed Indonesian action-thriller, The Raid: Redemption.

While Baaghi places a fair amount of emphasis on Tiger and Shraddha’s romantic track, 40 seconds into the trailer, one meets the film’s villain, who resides in a 30-storeyed tower with his “personal army on every floor”.

In The Raid: Redemption also, the film’s antagonist is holed up in a tower, with his armed henchmen parked on every floor, brutally fighting off an elite group of policemen who are out to get their big boss.

To give credit where it’s due, Baaghi has a strong female lead in Shraddha, who is seen kicking some serious ass. On the contrary, The Raid didn’t have a female character participating in the violence.

To get to the bottom of the obvious overlap in the theme and the treatment of the two films, SpotboyE got in touch with Baaghi’s director Sabbir Khan. He said, “We’ve worked extensively on the action sequences and ours is an entirely original film. I’ve heard about The Raid: Redemption but haven’t seen it. Ours is essentially a romantic film. This kind of comparison only takes away from the hard work of my team.”

However, the film’s lead Tiger let the cat out of the bag. When we spoke to him, he revealed, “Yes, The Raid: Redemption was one of our reference points and ours is a film similar in nature, especially the whole part of the villain in the building.”

The actor also revealed that he’d seen the film to understand the character, but later stuck to his director’s ‘vision.’ He said, “Sabbir had mapped it all out in his head and I followed his lead. To be compared to The Raid: Redemption is a big compliment as it’s one of the best action films of all time. I hope Baaghi sets the same benchmark as far as Indian action films are concerned.”

We have brought you the trailers of both the films. Here, take a look:
