THE BIG FIGHT: Kapil Sharma Vs Aamir Khan. Guess Who Won?

The Kapil Sharma Show, which made a grand entry in Top 10 in Week 20 (May 12-18) had to settle for the 14th spot in Week 21 (May 19-25). However, to our surprise, despite the fall in position, the show’s viewership increased in the said week. This, in turn, has helped the broadcaster (Sony) to garner more impressions -- from 2,46,462 to 2,52,231 – a substantial increase of 5,769.

So far so good. Then, how is it then that the show has dropped 7 positions? Well, during the weekend, the show faced stiff competition from Aamir Khan-starrer Dangal and IPL Final, leading to the audience being divided.

Sony can now heave a sigh of relief as it is after weeks of performing dismally that the show has managed to register an improved performance. Ever since Sunil Grover’s exit (week 13 was his last episode), the comedy show faced a gradual decline in impressions. Take a look at the chart below (ratings in average impressions):

Week 14: 2,79,670
Week 15: 2,68,782
Week 16: 2,54,251
Week 17: 2,42,549
Week 18: 2,40,272
Week 19: 2,35,548
Week 20: 2,46,462

Dangal Poster

You may notice that it was only in Week 20 that Kapil Sharma’s show managed to recover some lost ground. And now, it looks like the black clouds are moving away.

Karanvir Bohra & Mouni Roy In A Still From Naagin 2

To talk of Dangal, such was the response to the biographical sports drama that it dominated the leader board in Week 21. Yes, you read that right! After weaving magic at the box-office and also taking China by storm, Dangal was lapped up on TV as well and clinched the top position.

Sriti Jha In A Still From Kumkum Bhagya

Needless to say, it left the channel on which it was aired – Zee TV – grinning from ear to ear. With the terrific response, Zee TV moved up the ladder and is now the second most-watched channel across GECs – it was earlier at No.3.

A Still From Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai

Furthermore, Ekta Kapoor’s Naagin 2, which has enjoyed a run like no other, continued to drop and went from No.3 to 5 in Week 21. However, with Queen of Soaps being the producer, we are certain that a twist in waiting in its tracks, which will help propel the show’s ratings.

Kumkum Bhagya, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs acquired No 2, 3 and 4 positions respectively.
